College Admissions Counseling

Why Use an Independent College Admissions Counselor?

I believe that there is a big difference between deciding to go to college and deciding on the path that is right for you. Many families have discovered that starting with an independent consultant in high school enabled their child to be not only successful but motivated and engaged in the college admissions process. I am committed to helping students figure out what kind of future they would like to build for themselves.

Planning for and applying to college is complex, competitive, and time consuming. As an independent counselor, I offer great mechanical support on applications, essays, etc. But more importantly, I can help students to work through their emotions and offer encouragement during this oftentimes challenging process.

I work with students from start to finish through high school planning, navigating testing options, the admissions timeline, creating school lists, preparing for interviews, writing essays, and submitting final applications. Additionally, I support students and families with decisions about deferrals, wait lists, and scholarships.

As a practiced listener,  I assist students in discovering and honing their strengths and unique qualities in order to create powerful and meaningful applications.

As a parent myself,  I can speak with families about cost saving ideas and financial aid/scholarship opportunities. I understand that every student and their family must create a personal plan that is financially compatible for them.

I take on a limited number of students to work with so that I can give them the individualized attention they need.

“College is a match to be made, not a prize to be won. Finding a good fit requires time and thoughtfulness.”

Creating A Plan That Is Right For You

We begin with an initial consultation (free if you decide to continue working with College Gateways) to review the student’s academic history and to discuss long-term goals. This conversation guides us in the creation of an individualized plan. Communication with both parents/guardians and students will continue throughout the entire process. Families pay an hourly rate for my services which I invoice at the end of each month.
